Former Lady Panther basketball player Miata Askew is on the roster for the inaugural season of the Young Harris College Lady Mountain Lions. Askew signed a scholarship in May and will be guided by first year women’s basketball coach Brenda Paul.
Askew is listed as a strong forward for the Mountain Lions.
The 5-foot, 6-inch former Panther battled injuries during her time at Liberty County High School, but still contributed solidly to the team during the playoffs as a junior in the 2008-09 season.
Askew was selected third team All Region 3AAA as a senior in 2009-10 season.
Paul began her coaching career in 1978 at Tennessee Wesleyan College. After two years in Athens, Tenn., she left for Berry College. Paul led the Lady Vikings to three top-eight NAIA National Tournament finishes, including semifinal appearances in 1982 and 1984. Eight players from Berry earned All-American honors.
Paul left Berry with a 139-28 record and as the second-winningest coach in school history.
