The 12U Barracudas traveling baseball team won back-to-back tournaments, emerging victorious from the Extra Inning Invitational in Vidalia on May 22 and the SSAA Invitational in Nahunta on May 29.
The Barracudas were founded in 2007 in Liberty County. To date, they have played in and won tournaments in many cities, including Vidalia, Hazelhurst, Waycross, Statesboro, Blackshear, Patterson and a few in Liberty County. As the team prepares to move into the 13U category in August, plans are in the works for games against teams in Pooler, Augusta and Statesboro in United States Specialty Sports Association-sanctioned events.
The players are working hard, hosting fundraisers and mowing lawns to earn funds that will allow them to travel to different tournaments.
On average, tournaments cost the team $300 per trip. Coaches also hope to buy new uniforms since many of the boys are outgrowing theirs. The Barracudas have one sponsor, which has helped, but they are seeking additional support.
