The Bradwell Institute boys’ team and the Liberty County High School girls’ team won their divisions’ titles during the Liberty County Championships on Friday at BI.
In the high-school boys’ division, Bradwell outscored LCHS 94-41, while the Lady Panthers topped the Lady Tigers 74-54.
At the middle-school level, the Midway Middle School girls’ team and Lewis Frazier Middle boys’ teams took first place in their divisions.
“It was an excellent showcase for the people of Hinesville,” Bradwell boys’ coach DeAndre Davis said. “This was the first time that the teams have been on the same track. We would like to continue this meet for years to come.”
The coach said there was a huge turnout despite the rain.
“We had over 200 spectators in attendance,” Davis said, adding that the rivalry between Liberty and Bradwell brought in the spectators. The coach said each side’s fan base was vocal in cheering their teams and offering support.
Davis said rivalry aside, both schools support each other and thinks the meet will create more unity than division.
A few Bradwell athletes will compete at the Beach Run Invitational this weekend in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Davis said teams from across the nation compete at the event.
