The Blue Tide boys basketball team won their third game in a row Tuesday, defeating Jeff Davis High School 66-54.

Having to face a hostile crowd in Hazlehurst, the Long County boys took the lead early and went on to win their 5th game in their last six outings against the tough Yellow Jackets. With the win the Blue Tide improved their 2-AA Region mark to 5-3, moving into a tie with Pierce County for the third spot. The Tide’s overall record stands at 7-9, having won 7 of their last 11 games, after starting 0-5.

Tonight the Blue Tide has a big test, as they take on the Benedictine Cadets (13-5) in Savannah. In the first matchup between the teams the Cadets won a nail biter 54-52. BC, which is 8-1 in the region, is coming off a disappointing loss to McIntosh County (10-6). The Buccaneers now sit atop the region as the only undefeated team with an 8-0 record.

The game tonight also pits the best defense in the 2-AA against the best offense in the region. The Cadets come into the game only allowing 50 points a game, while the Blue Tide come in at 65 points a game.

Though the Long County boys seem to have turned their season around, struggles continue for the girls. The Lady Tide lost to Jeff Davis on Tuesday, 19-48, dropping their overall record to 1-14 and their region record to 1-8.

Tonight the ladies face St. Vincent’s Academy, which has an overall record of 8-10 and a region record of 5-4. In the first game between the teams the Saints won 68-39.

The girls start at 6 and the boys at 6:30, both games are in Savannah.
