Blue Tide flag football continues hot start

The Lady Blue Tide flag football team is one of the best teams in the area and they continue to prove it after big wins on Monday, Nov. 13. The teams hosted Camden County and McIntosh County Academy and rolled to two huge shutout wins, beating the Wildcats 34-0 and the Bucs 54-0.

Kyleigh Sizemore completed the opening drive against Camden with a 2-yard toss to Macey Higgason to go up 7-0 with 2:00 left in the first quarter.

Camden had secondand- goal at the Tide 3 but Yuridia Sellars came up with a big sack to set up third and long before Abby Tewalt knocked a pass away and forced a turnover on downs.

On the second play of the ensuing drive, Sizemore hit Ciara O’Brien who pitched the ball back to France Smith. The junior then went 70 yards down the sideline for the touchdown to make the score 14-0.

Following a second three-and-out, Sizemore hit fellow senior Sara Barnes over the middle for a 24-yard touchdown to make the score 21-0.

Kelly Stokes and Cici Powe made plays on the next defensive series to knock down passes to force another three and out. The Tide set up at the Wildcat 34 and on the next play, they were back in the endzone.

Sizemore hit Makinzie Moody and the state’s leading receiver made some fancy moves and went 31 yards to the endzone as the Tide led 28-0 at the half.

After backing up the Wildcats to their own 5-yard line, Powe returned a drop kick on a punt 30 yards for a touchdown and a 34-0 lead.

The Wildcats defeated the Buccaneers 52-0 in the second game and the Tide then took the field a Sizemore hit Johnson for a 48 yard touchdown pass to make the score 7-0 with 1:35 left in the first.

Yazmin Coronel intercepted a MCA pass to open the second quarter, running the pick back 10 yards for the touchdown to put the Tide up 14-0.

Moody took a handoff and went 29 yards for the score as the Tide went up 21-0 with 3:00 left in the half, and Powe made another big play as she intercepted a pass and went 20 yards the other way for the touchdown.

The Tide got the ball back with just under a minute left to play, and Sizemore hit Barnes over the middle, who pitched back to Moody as she went 25 yards for the score as the Tide led 34-0 at the half.

After opening the third quarter with a 31-yard pass to Barnes, Sizemore connected with Moody on a 35-yard touchdown as the Tide led 40-0 with 8:30 left in the quarter.

Sizemore’s touchdown pass to Higgason stretched the lead to 47-0 with 9:00 left in the game.

On the final drive of the game, Sizemore went to her freshmen, hitting Jersi Lester for 15 yards and then Alyssa Skipper down the sideline for the last 15 yards and the touchdown.

Shay Scott caught the 1-point conversion to make the final score 54-0.

With the win, the Tide improve to 14-3 and 8-1 in the region. They are also 8-0 at home and have allowed just 14 points at home.

They will be back at home on Monday, Nov. 27 to host Effingham County and St. Vincent’s before the playoffs begin on Dec. 4.
