The Long County Lady Blue Tide have almost completed a full sweep against region opponents and will have the chance to wrap that up Wednesday. However, their most recent region victory was by far their toughest of the season when they held off the Savannah Christian Lady Raiders 3-2 on Tuesday.

Senior pitcher Jaci Smiley struck out two batters after giving up two hits in the first inning.

At the plate, the Tide needed some good play in a tense situation as they quickly found themselves in a two-out hole.

Taylor Hodges reached on a single and stole second. Smiley’s single to right field plated Hodges for a 1-0 lead.

The Lady Raiders took a 2-1 in the third before Smiley crushed a ball to the right field fence for a triple, and she came home on Kassie Davis’ sacrifice to tie the game at 2-2.

The Raiders got three hits in the fifth, but were unable to put anything across the plate.

With one on and two outs, Hodges came through in a clutch moment as she scored Emma Smith on a double to give her team the definitive 3-2 lead.

Smiley was 2-for-3 at the plate. She also went the distance in the circle, allowing seven hits and two runs, but striking out six.

With the win, the Lady Tide have now won seven straight games and are 8-1 and 3-0 in the region. They will look to complete the first third of their region schedule as they host the St. Vincent’s Academy Saints today.
