Tuesday, Long County High School took on the teams from Jeff Davis High School. The boys lost to the Yellow Jackets, 43-38, and the girls fell, 62-36.
Blue Tide head coach Deshon Brock said despite his team being down at the half, they fought hard and didn’t quit.
“The kids fought back hard and overcame some questionable no-calls and calls that went against us, and played with tremendous effort,” Brock said. “I was proud of how they handled themselves in that type of environment.”
The coach also said he was pleased with the play of Mike Abram coming off the bench.
“You won’t see it on the stat sheet but his presence on the defense was great. He forced five turnovers with four of them coming off steals he made.”
Long County’s leading scorers were Brendon Scott (11 points), Clay Strickland (9) and Danaron Anderson (8).
With their losses, the Lady Tide fell to 15-7 overall and 5-5 in the 2-AA Region. The Blue Tide dropped to 5-16 overall and 1-9 in the region.
On Friday, Long County was to play Groves High in Garden City for more region action. Results from those games were not available.
Tuesday, the Tide teams are back at home, paying region rivals Bacon County. The Raiders come into the game with a 7-6 overall record and a 5-5 region mark. The Lady Raiders go in at 0-14 overall and 0-10 in the region. The girls at 6 p.m. and the boys follow at 7:30.
