Boat-safety course in Savannah

SAVANNAH — The Savannah-Chatham Metro Police Department Marine Patrol unit will conduct a boating-safety course from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 17 at the Metro training facility next to Dillard’s on the second floor of the Savannah Mall.
The course is free and is required of boaters of certain ages prior to operating certain vessels. The class is limited to 25 participants. The next class will be Sept. 21.
On July 1, 2014, a new mandatory-education law will require anyone born after Jan. 1, 1998, who operates a powerboat in Georgia to have completed a Department of Natural Resources-approved boat-education course.

The Long County wrestling team celebrates its region championship at Calvary Day School.
The Long County Blue Tide wrestling team made history this past weekend when both the boys and girls teams qualified for the state championship duals meet. The girls won the Division 2 Area 1 championship on Friday, January 10 and the boys won the Region 3-AAA championship on Saturday, January 11.
