Host Westside High School went on a late run to go ahead of Bradwell Institute and earn a 45-41 win in the both teams’ opening game of the 2008 Great Southern Shootout in Macon.

The Tigers fell to 1-5, while the Seminoles improved to 4-4.

Bradwell coach Peter Woodard said the loss continued a disturbing pattern for the Tigers.

"Down the stretch it was the same old song," he said. "We’ve got to learn to finish, especially when the game is close."

He said his squad
played hard and did well
to have the lead with 1 minute, 21 seconds left in the game.

"Then we made some
turnovers, missed some layups and did not finish what we needed to," Woodard said.

Derrick Nesbitt and D. J. Felder paced the Tigers’ offense with 14 and 13 points, respectively.

The Tigers were scheduled
to play Saturday in the B bracket against either Southwest Macon or Baldwin. Their final game of the tournament is scheduled for Monday afternoon.

Baldwin was 2-6 going into the tournament, while Southwest Macon was 3-2.
