Bradwell boys post big wins over Pirates, Blue Devils

The Bradwell Institute Tigers broke out to a big lead early and held off the Statesboro Blue Devils on Tuesday night for a 63-49 win.

Bradwell improved to 3-0 in the Region 1-AAAAA basketball standings and to 13-4 overall.

Four Tigers finished in double figures, with Zi’on Thomas getting a team-high 17 points. Jaylin Sweat added 15 points, Chris Perry scored 11 and Eli Hale logged a double-double with 10 points and 10 assists.

The Tigers shot 24-of-44 from inside the 3-point line, a 55% clip. The Tigers led by as much as 22 points in the third quarter.

JaiCaden Cone paced all scorers with 23 points for the Blue Devils.

The Tigers took apart Brunswick in another region tilt Saturday, blasting the Pirates 59-33 Saturday at the BI gym.

Jah’barri Felix topped Bradwell with 13 points and Keon Grant added 12. Perry and Sweat each had eight points, while Perry pulled down nine rebounds. Thomas chipped in seven points.

Justin Carreker led Brunswick with nine points and 10 rebounds.

Bradwell bounced back from a 66-63 loss at home Friday to Calvary Day, fighting back from a 35-16 halftime deficit.

Four Cavaliers finished in double figures, with Evan Blessett’s 17 points leading the way. Demetrius Brown added 16 points, 6-foot-8 Chol Chol Deng finished with 12 points and Jamari Jenkins added 10 points. The Cavs entered the game ranked No. 10 in the Class A-3A Private rankings.

Thomas poured in a game-high 23 points, going 9-for-13 shooting from two-point range in the game. Sweat scored 12, Perry added 10 and Hale had six points and six assists.
