The Bradwell Institute Tigers basketball team showed its depth in its season opener.
Four players scored in double figures, and the Tigers pulled away for an 83-59 win over in-county rival Liberty County on Saturday at the LCHS gym.
Chris Perry, named the game’s Davion Mitchell most valuable player, led BI with a team-high 16 points. Jaylin Sweat added 15, Zion Thomas had eight of his 13 points in the first quarter and E.J. Hale scored 12 points. Jordan Stevens had nine points and 13 rebounds.
Elijah Brown had 13 of his game-high 23 points in the fourth quarter to pace the Panthers. Grant Frazier scored 10 and Chris Miller connected on three 3s to finish with nine points.
Sweat’s steal and slam with 1:17 left in the first quarter put Bradwell ahead 19-15 in what was a back-and-forth affair over the first seven minutes.
The Tigers, though, opened the second quarter on an 18-2 run, with Hale’s 3 and his putback helping to spark the outburst. Thomas’ follow slam capped the run.
Bradwell took a 63-32 lead on Jordan Gregg’s putback before Miller drained a 3 and Brown converted a three-point play to prevent a shortened fourth quarter.
The Tigers also posted a 79-69 win over Johnson on Tuesday to go to 2-0.
Bradwell hosts Calvary Day on Friday, and the Panthers are off until a November 25 home date against Glynn Academy.
