Bradwell rallies to upend Liberty County
BI scores five times in bottom of the seventh to pull out victory

The Bradwell Institute Lady Tigers scored five times in the bottom of the seventh inning Tuesday, and ushered in their new field with a 9-8 win over rival Liberty County.

The final two runs scored on Ma’Kayla Gray’s groundout, capping the dramatic rally.

Heather Garrett went 3-for-4 with a double to lead Bradwell, and Ja’Lyiah Taylor was 2-for-4 with a double.

Liberty opened with a three-run rally in the first inning on two hits, a hit batter and an error. Bradwell answered with two runs in the bottom of the first.

Payton Proman’s two-run double in the second pushed Liberty’s lead to 5-2.

Bradwell got a run back in the home half of the fourth inning, but the Panthers stretched the lead to 8-3 in the sixth, getting four walks and an error to help score three runs. Gray singled and scored in the sixth inning to bring the Tigers within 8-4.

Liberty had runners on second and third with two outs in the seventh but Brashona Wilkins got a strikeout to end the threat and set the stage for Bradwell’s comeback.

Layla Santiago also had a triple for the Panthers, who finished with five hits. Liberty batters also amassed with 11 walks.

Wilkins pitched 4 2/3 innings in relief for Bradwell, giving up three hits and three runs. She struck out five and walked five. Eyanah Savea started, allowing two earned runs on two hits

Kayleigh Barnard got the start in the circle for Liberty, allowing six earned runs on nine hits. She struck out eight and walked two.
