The Liberty County Panthers basketball teams suffered their first region losses of the year Tuesday night at Calvary Day.
The Calvary boys rallied to upend the Panthers 54-50, and the Lady Panthers fell 50-27.
With the losses, the Panthers boys are 2-2 on the season and 1-1 in Region 3-AAA. The girls slipped to 3-4 on the year and 1-1 in the region.
The Liberty County boys and girls got their Region 1-AAA starts off to a strong start with a sweep of Beach.
The Panthers downed the Bulldogs boys 58-50, despite 21 points from Beach’s Chandler Reid.
The boys improved to 2-1.
Liberty routed Beach 72-41 in the Region 3-AAA opener for both teams and evened its record at 3-3 with a close shave against an out-of-state foe.
The Lady Panthers rallied in the fourth quarter to knock off the Cross (S.C.) Stingrays 47-43. Cross took a two-point lead after outscoring Liberty 20-9 in the third quarter. Ryan Mayers and Sydney Hollings had 15 points each to lead the Stingrays.
Liberty hosts Johnson on Friday and travels to Jenkins on Tuesday.
