TYBEE ISLAND — The Surfrider Foundation Coastal Georgia Low Country Chapter will host the sixth annual International Surfing Day celebration at 9:30 a.m. Saturday between 17th and 18th streets on Tybee Island.
The family friendly, daylong event starts with a "paddle out" to honor deceased local surfer Charles Pidgeon. Throughout the day, there will be contests, demonstrations, giveaways and opportunities to test out surfboards, stand-up paddle boards and kayaks. Free instruction and educational information will be provided.
At 8:30 a.m. Sunday, the Surfrider Foundation Coastal Georgia Low Country Chapter and Tybee Beautification Association will team up for a beach sweep at the Tybee Pier. Individuals and families are encouraged to attend. Bags and gloves will be supplied, and Green Life Space will provide recycling for the event.
