Collegians shine in recent action

Former local high school basketball standouts LaQuananisha Adams, a Liberty County High School graduate, and Charmaine Clark, a Bradwell Institute graduate, helped their respective collegiate teams earn victories during Thanksgiving week.
Adams is in her freshman season at Georgia Tech, while Clark is a junior at the University of Miami.


Charmaine Clark

The Lady Hurricanes (5-2) earned their fourth UM Thanksgiving Tournament title with a 60-44 win against Santa Clara on Nov. 29.
Clark, a 5-foot-11 guard/forward, scored six points and grabbed six rebounds against Santa Clara. She had four points, four rebounds and five assists the night before in a win against Austin Peay.
So far this season, Clark is averaging 7.0 points and 5.3 rebounds a game. After earning all-tournament honors for her play over Thanksgiving week, she had a career-high 10 assists in Miami’s 83-69 win against Florida A&M on Monday.
Last season, Clark played in 29 games, starting 19. She averaged 5.9 ppg and 3.4 rpg.
In her freshman year, she averaged 7.2 ppg and 4.9 rpg in starting 20 of Miami’s 30 games.
At Bradwell, Clark lettered four years in basketball and
three in volleyball. She led
the Lady Tigers to the 2005-06 Class AAAAA basketball
quarterfinals.

Nisha Adams

Adams, a 6-4 center, had a career-high six rebounds off the bench during Georgia Tech’s 68-56 consolation-game victory against Tennessee Tech at the Florida Atlantic Thanksgiving Classic this past Sunday in Boca Raton. She added four points for the Lady Yellow Jackets (5-2), who fell to No. 9 Texas in the tournament opener.
So far this season, Adams is averaging 3.2 ppg and 2.0 rpg.  She is 5-for-10 shooting from the floor, 6-for-7 from the foul line.
