Bradwell’s Ty’Tyana Anderson (1) and Parris Parham put a trap on Liberty County’s Malajah Roberts (11).

The old coaching adage defense wins championships has no bigger proponent than Bradwell Institute’s Faye Baker.

And her Lady Tigers put on a defensive show Saturday afternoon.

Bradwell held in-county rival Liberty County to just four second-half points – and no field goals over that span – in a 74-18 season-opening rout.

The Lady Tigers, ranked No. 8 in Class AAAAA, held the Lady Panthers scoreless in the final quarter, which was shortened to six minutes.

Parris Parham, named the DeLisha Milton-Jones most valuable player of the game, led Bradwell with 26 points, 10 coming in the second quarter as the Lady Tigers began to pull away. She also had nine rebounds and seven steals.

Jamia Ousley, who had 11 of Bradwell’s 36 steals, and Ty’Tyana Anderson each added 12 points for the Lady Tigers, and Ja’Nya Bush scored eight. Destiny McLemore chipped in seven points.

Mar’Qeria Troche had seven points for the Lady Panthers.

The Lady Tigers followed that up with an 81-9 win over Johnson on Tuesday night – again without allowing a point in the fourth quarter.

Liberty fell 55-38 to Bryan County.
