FCPA, Liberty County take second at state
FPCA baseball 2021

First Preparatory Christian Academy’s boys’ baseball team and Liberty County High School’s boys’ track team both finished second overall in their respective State title tournaments.

Baseball

The FPCA baseball team went against a tough Thomas Jefferson Academy who swept the series in two games this past weekend. FPCA lost game one 11-0 and game two 14-0. The second place overall finish was done under the leadership of first year head coach Chandler Newman.

According to maxpreps. com, the FPCA boys were 10-16 overall and 5-2 in the Georgia Independent School Association Region 2-AA.

Track

The Liberty County High School Boys track team won second place overall at the State track meet held May 13 in Albany.

According to boys’ track coach Keith McGee the boys only sent eight athletes to the State.

Meon McLeod took first place in the 100 meter dash (10.51), first in the 200 meter dash (21.65) and was part of the first place 4x100 relay team of Caz Creasy, Jaylin Ferrell, and James Summerset. The 4x 100 relay team finished in 42.03 seconds.

Ferrell won first place in the 400 meter dash (48.40), placed seventh in the 200 meter dash (22.44) Ken Foxworth placed 2nd in the triple jump and 9th in the high jump.

The Panther boys’ 4x400 relay team placed seventh.

For the Lady Panthers Leia Williams took the top spot earning first in the girls’ shot put (39, 6.75) and placed second in the discus (139-2). Mylan Tanner placed seventh in the 300 meter hurdles.

Isabella Melendez placed eighth in the high jump and her teammate Tynia Freeman placed tenth. Alishantai Williams placed 15th in the long jump.

The Lady Panther are coached by Daryl McCulley and assistant coach Lacey Whitney.

The Panthers thanked the support of their teammates, family and school Administrators, Athletic Director Dr. Warnella Wilder and Principal Debra Frazier. The Bradwell Institute Tigers had several athletes place in the preliminary races. Tiger Devin Nash did place third overall in the final of the 100 meter dash with a time of 10.76. The Tigers competed in Carrolton.

First Preparatory Christian Academy competed at their State track meet on April 29 in Locust Grove.

D. J. Christensen placed third in the 1600 meter run and ninth in the 800 meter run. Alfred Martin placed 12th in the 100 meter dash. Martin also placed 14th in the long jump. Dylan Church placed 15th in the 200 meter dash and 11th in the 400 meter dash. Timothy Christensen placed eighth in the 3200 meter run and 15th in the discus throw. For the girls Lady Highlander Kaylah Anderson placed 12th in the 800 meter run and 10th in the 1600 meter run.
