First Presbyterian spring sports teams fare well in competition

The FPCA tennis team competed against Robert Toombs on Thursday. Byron Padgett won his match 8-2. Clayton Mobley won by forfeit. Ali Dye lost 8-2. Haley Stuart and Dye competed in doubles and won their match 8-1. Padgett and Mobley lost their doubles match 8-2. The Highlanders will face Robert Toombs again this Thursday. Tennis is coached by April Causer.

The Highlander Middle school baseball team defeated Frederica Academy on March 14, winning 12-3. The team will compete again Thursday against Robert Toombs. The middle school team is coached by Jay Osteen and Chris Eason. Varsity baseball won their first region match 15-5 against Robert Toombs on March 16. On Saturday the varsity team lost 12-6 against Thomas Heyward Academy from South Carolina. The JV baseball team competed and beat Thomas Heyward 14-3. The varsity will competed Tuesday at Twiggs Academy. The Varsity and JV are coached by Ryan Harmon and Chris Nunn.

The FPCA Golf team won their first match at Cherokee Rose Golf Course on March 12. The Highlander Golf team is coached by Rob Whitney and Chris Eason.
The Highlander track team competed in their first match of the season on March 14 at Bulloch Academy. Vivian Hinze placed first in the long jump and 400, and second in the 200 and 100. On the boy’s side, Christopher Dennis placed fifth in the long jump and Tre’shaun Davis placed eighth. Andre Burnett placed second in the 400. The track team will compete again Saturday at Georgia Southern University in the Gator Relays. The Highlander track team is coached by Shane Smith.

The Highlander Soccer teams traveled to Albany to participate in the yearly Under the Cross tournament at Sherwood Christian. The girls and boys teams both won two of three games. The soccer teams will compete again on Thursday at home against Trinity Christian. Highlander Soccer is coached by Tom Sukaratana and assisted by Holly Buckley, Sung Won Chi, and Thomas Sarles.
