Former FPCA star helps win soccer title

A regional women’s soccer team has former First Presbyterian Christian Academy and current Armstrong State University soccer player Brooke Standard to thank in part for its summer league championship.

She plays for the Excel Ladies, an Atlantic Soccer Academy South Carolina team that is a member of the United States Soccer League National Women’s Under-20 League. The team is based out of Hilton Head Island

The Excel Ladies went 5-1-2 this season, according to its website. The team made it to the championships by winning the South Atlantic Division, scoring 17 points overall.

The championship games were last weekend at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida.
The Excel Ladies beat Georgia 2-0 in the semifinal game.

Last Sunday, Standard and the team took the field against the Gulf Coast Texans for the title game. The Excel Ladies won 2-0.

The team is coached by Michael Townsend.
