Former Liberty County High School football standout Roderick Jones made some big plays for Shorter University when the Hawks played Bethel on Nov. 13 in both schools’ final regular season game.

Bethel won 36-26 but Jones had "one monster of a game," according to Shorter University’s athletic website.

Jones scored three touchdowns, accounted for 177 total yards of offense and ran for 129 yards on five carries. He scored on a 49-yard run and caught a 25-yard TD pass from Ben Williams as Shorter took a 13-7 lead in the first quarter.

Shorter used Jones’ first two touchdowns and a 43-yard touchdown run by C.J. Scott, to build a 20-14 halftime lead.

Jones later scored on Shorter’s first play from scrimmage in the third quarter on a 48-yard run that put the Hawks ahead 26-21 before Bethel rallied to win.
