Former Liberty County Panther standout Rion Brown came off the bench to score a career high 17 points Friday night during Miami’s 88-65 win over North Carolina Central.

Brown, a freshman, scored the first seven points during a 10-2 Hurricanes run, helping Miami build a 23-14 lead with 12:34 left in the first half.

Brown and teammates Garrius Adams, Adrian Thomas and Raphael Akpejiori each hit 3-pointers during a 12-0 Hurricane run early in the second half, according to the University of Miami athletic department.

Miami shot 10 of 22 from 3-point range.

Brown, whose previous high of three points came against Jacksonville in the season-opener, finished the game 5-of-9 from the field, 2-of-5 from behind the arc and 5-of-6 from the line. Brown’s 17 points tied him with Duke’s Seth Curry for the third-highest scoring total by an ACC player off the bench this season. C.J. Leslie of NC State scored a conference-best 21 points off the bench against Tennessee Tech on Nov. 12.
