Former prep players doing well at West Alabama

Former Liberty County running back Shadrach Thornton had 85 yards rushing and two touchdowns for North Carolina State, which lost to No. 1 Florida State, 56-41, Saturday in Raleigh.

Bradwell Institute alum LaBaron Anthony and former Liberty County High School Panther Jeremy Caldwell-Fabregas had good weekends on the field for the University of West Alabama Tigers’ football team.

During Saturday’s 60-7 win over Concordia, the Tigers’ coaching staff gave both true freshmen extra playing time. Anthony was the leading the Tiger rusher with 92 yards on 14 carries in the second half.

Caldwell-Fabregas tied his teammate Brandon Lilly for the team lead in tackles with five apiece.

Anthony has seen action in two games this season and has 17 carries for 103 yards and one touchdown. Caldwell-Fabregas has played in three games and has 10 solo tackles and two assists.

In other college-football news regarding former local players, former Liberty County running back Shadrach Thornton had 85 yards rushing and two touchdowns for North Carolina State, which lost to No. 1 Florida State, 56-41, Saturday in Raleigh, according to ESPN.com. Thornton has seven touchdowns in five games this season.

Former Panther football player Raekwon McMillan played a majority of the second half for No. 22 Ohio State during its 50-28 win over Cincinnati Saturday in Columbus. He had one solo tackle and two assists.
