Four Georgia Southern football players have been voted to the Preseason All-Sun Belt squad, as released Monday afternoon by the conference. The team was voted on by coaches and selected media who cover the league.
Sixth-year offensive lineman Khalil Crowder, fifth-year receiver Khaleb Hood and redshirt junior linebacker Marques Watson-Trent were all named to the first team at their respective positions while sixth-year tight end Jjay Mcafee was named to the second team.
Coastal Carolina redshirt senior quarterback Grayson Mc-Call was named the preseason offensive player of the year and Old Dominion junior linebacker Jason Henderson was voted as the preseason defensive player of the year.
As a team, Georgia Southern was picked fourth in the East Division. The Eagles are slated to open their season on Sept. 2 at home against The Citadel.
The Eagles’ schedule includes a Sept. 16 trip to Camp Randall Stadium to face the Wisconsin Badgers.
Georgia Southern will host UAB on Sept. 9 in a non-conference game and head to Ball State for a non-conference game on Sept. 23.
Georgia Southern will host Coastal Carolina in its Sun Belt Conference opener Sept. 30 before getting its first open week of the season.
The Eagles also will host Louisiana- Monroe, Georgia State and Old Dominion as part of their home conference slate. The matchup with rival Georgia State will be on Thursday, Oct. 28 at 7:30 p.m. and will be broadcast on ESPN2.
The regular season concludes Nov. 25 at Appalachian State.
The Eagles went 6-7 last year in coach Clay Helton’s first season at the helm of the program. The Eagles beat App State in double overtime in the regular season finale to earn a bowl berth but fell 23-21 to Buffalo in the Camellia Bowl. Georgia Southern earned a win over a top-25 team with an upset of No. 25 James Madison last year.
