Evan North has used his right arm to be First Preparatory Christian Academy’s ace on the baseball team. He used it last week to sign a letter of intent with East Georgia College.
The senior pitcher, who helped lead the Highlanders to the GIAA Class A state baseball championship in 2023, signed with the two-year school in Swainsboro, and he could be headed to bigger things down the road.
“I’m super excited,” he said. “They have a really good program. It’s a place I’ve been looking to go toward and get me in the weight room and better me as a person and a player.”
North finished with an earned run average of 2.14 and struck out 141 batters in his FPCA career. Though he was named to the GIAA Class A all-state first team after his junior and senior seasons, getting attention from college programs was still difficult.
“It was a little nerve-wracking,” North said. “It was a little tough, being the only senior on the team.”
But during a bullpen session for the East Georgia coaches, it was apparent right away they got a steal.
“He said he knew after the first pitch that I was going Division I,” North said.
The 6-foot-1, 175-pound pitcher has his fastball up to 93 and also throws a curveball. Over the summer, he’s going to be working on improving his change up.
“I need to work on locating my change up,” he said. “That’s going to be the focus.”
