FPCA dominates GIAA all-state first team

The First Preparatory Christian Highlanders dominated the GIAA Class A all-state honors, after going back-to-back for boys basketball titles.

After leading the Highlanders to a 22-3 mark and their second straight state championship, Shane Smith was named the Class A coach of the year.

The Highlanders, who beat region rival Citizens Christian Academy in the state championship game, placed five players on the Class A all-state first team.

Senior Robert McCloud, who averaged a team-high 22.7 points per game, was named to the first team. Junior Malachi Furlow averaged 13.8 points and 5.6 rebounds per game in joining McCloud on the first team, and sophomore Devion Clark average 12 points, 8.1 rebounds and 4.2 steals per game in getting first-team recognition.

Junior Brandon Betton also earned first-team honors after averaging 11.6 points and 4.2 assists per game. Senior Jace Reid was named to the first team after scoring 5.8 points per game and pulling down 3.5 rebounds per game.
