FPCA set for state tourney play

FPCA boys start state tournament Thursday.

The First Presbyterian Christian Academy boys’ basketball team starts state-tournament play against Crisp Academy at 7 Thursday at David Emanuel Academy in Stillmore.
The Highlanders beat Robert Toombs Christian Academy, 73-58, last Friday in Lyons to capture the Region 2-AA title of the Georgia Independent School Association classification. FPCA’s Michael Burnett lit up the board with 22 points. Densear Carnes added 19 points, John Killough scored 12, Frederick Heaggans added 11 points, Richard Smith scored six and Jamison Golson had one point.
The road to the championship game was paved last Thursday, when FPCA easily beat Twiggs Academy, 84-52, in the semifinal game. Smith led the scoring in that game with 18 points. Carnes hit 14 points, Burnett scored 13, and Khalyn Weekly scored 11. Killough had 10 points, Golson had six points, Heaggans sank three points and Nasmeek Murphy chipped in two points.
In other FPCA news, Smith, Burnett, Heaggans and Carnes were named to the All-Region Team. FPCA head coach Shane Smith was named region coach of the year.
