First Presbyterian Christian Academy will get a jump start to its football season this year. While most public schools won’t play their first regular-season games until Aug. 26, FPCA will hit the gridiron on Aug. 12, at Westwood in Camilla.
The early schedule was posted on maxpreps.com and confirmed by school officials.
The Highlanders will host Greater Bethlehem Temple Aug. 19, host Hilton Head Christian Academy Aug. 26 and host Trinity Christian Sept. 2.
The FPCA home games are played at Long Bell Stadium at Liberty Independent Troop Park.
On Sept. 9, the Highlanders will play St. Andrew’s in Savannah. They host Monsignor Donovan Sept. 16 and hit the road Sept. 23 to play at Georgia Christian in Valdosta. FPCA will host Brentwood on Sept. 30 and Memorial Day on Oct. 14 before closing the season at Toombs Christian Academy in Lyons.
All the scheduled games are set to start at 7:30 p.m. The Highlanders started their football program going 0-10 in 2012 and 2013.
Terry Middleton became the head coach midseason in 2014 and guided FPCA to the first two wins of the program. That season, they finished 2-8. Last year, the Highlanders had two wins again, going 2-9.
Based on the Highlanders’ preliminary roster, FPCA will return veteran talent in seniors Isaiah Dickey, Brantley McKorkle, Nasmeek Murphy, Jamison Golson, Jordan Gilliard, Austin Hendrix and Brandon Attical. Returning junior Khalyn Weekley and sophomore Sensier Carnes are also expected to make an impact for the season.
Currently, FPCA has a 17-man roster. This year, Middleton welcomes Frank Troupe as his offensive coordinator and Mike Durham as his defensive coordinator.
