The First Presbyterian Christian Academy swimmers did well at the Georgia Independent School Association State Meet on Jan. 30 at Georgia Tech in Atlanta.

According to FPCA coach Jonnie Larson, all Highlander swimmers dropped time and set personal records.

“Mackenzie (McCartney) finished first in her heat for the 100-yard individual-medley event,” Larson said. “When she got out of the water, she came to me and said, ‘Coach, I saw the girl in the lane next to me and all I thought was I did not want her to touch to the wall first.’”

Xavier McCartney, the only varsity swimmer on the team, earned a total of 11 points in his three events. He qualified for state in all eight events but could swim in only three events, Larson noted.

Will and Jackson Magan, who compete on the Georgia Coastal Aquatic Team swim team with coach Donna Hooe, earned a combined score of 17.5 points for the junior-varsity team.
