First Preparatory Christian Academy’s Deborah Kane claimed the girls Class A state championship in the GIAA state cross country meet.
The meet was held Saturday at Middle Georgia State College in Macon. Kane finished in 22:47, becoming the first cross country runner in Liberty County history to win a state individual title.
The Highlanders boys finished as runner-up in the team competition, just five points behind St. George’s Episcopal School of Milner.
Rory Miles had the fourth-best time in the boys race, and with one of those finishing ahead of them competing as a solo runner, he earned three points. Jackson McCullough and Teegan Moore finished eighth and ninth, earning seven and eight points respectively, and Kevin Remillard and Brandon Betton came in 11th and 12th, netting 10 and 11 points.
Kane, Miles, McCullough and Moore also were named to the GIAA all-state cross country teams.
