Bud Frankenthaler completed the second of five scheduled triathlons in the Tri the Parks triathlon series May 12.
The 74-year-old won his age group, finishing the race in 2 hours, 34 minutes and 23.8 seconds.
The race at Fort Yargo State Park in Winder differed than other sprint triathlons because the cycling and running were split into two different sections.
To start the event, Frankenthaler swam .625 of a mile in 27:22.1. He followed the swim by cycling 6.4 miles in 38:56.3. That was followed by running 1.55 miles in 17:38.9. In his second time on the bike, he finished the course in 44:02.5. He ran the second half of the course in 18:07.5.
This is the seventh year of the event and Frankenthaler’s second year competing.
Frankenthaler finished first in his age group on April 28 at Tanner State Park in Carrollton, finishing the race in 2:30:38.34.
He races again on June 2 at Richard B. Russell State Park in Elberton.
