Glynn pushes Bradwell to OT in girls region opener

The Bradwell Institute Lady Tigers took their Region 1-AAAAA basketball opener, downing Glynn Academy 38-34 in overtime Tuesday night.

The Lady Tigers, 17-0 on the season, had a 30-21 lead going into the fourth quarter but the Lady Red Terrors held them to just two points in the final stanza to force overtime.

Mikalya Oliveira led the Lady Tigers with 11 points, while Jamia Ousley scored nine, Destini McLemore finished with eight points and Ja’Nya Bush scored six points. McLemore also pulled down 12 rebounds.

McLemore notched a double-double in a 50-27 win over Richmond Hill to close out Brunswick High’s Hoopin’ at the High tournament. The sophomore poured in 17 points and pulled down 11 rebounds.

Bush had 15 points and came up with six steals. Janiyah Blevins scored seven points and Oliveira added six points.

Bristol MacHgan led the Wildcats with eight points.

Bradwell continues its five-game homestand Friday against Calvary Day and the girls welcome in region foe and fellow top-10 team Brunswick on Saturday at 5 p.m.
