Highlanders move up a classification
Move affects basketball rivalry

Much like the public school region re-alignments announced in December, the Georgia Independent School Association recently reviewed the schools they govern and re-classified regions based on enrollment numbers and locations. The move shifted the First Presbyterian Christian Academy Highlanders from Region 2-A to Region 2-AA for sports like basketball, baseball, golf, literary, tennis and track.

The change means the Highlander boys three-time state championship basketball team will no longer battle Bethesda for region and state crowns.

Since not all private schools have the same sports programs, other sports fell into different classifications. For example, the Highlander girls softball team ended up in Region 1-AA. In addition to Edmund Burke and Robert Toombs, they’ll face Brentwood Christian.
