Hockey returns to Savannah Civic Center

SAVANNAH — The Savannah Area Chamber of Commerce, Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Greater Savannah Sports Council have planned some hard-hitting action for the Savannah Tire Hockey Classic, presented by Bud Light, at the Savannah Civic Center on Jan. 14- 16.

New this year, Savannah Tire has signed a three-year deal to be the title sponsor of the classic through 2012. The tournament also is expanding to a third night and has added two teams, The Citadel and the University of South Carolina. The two will play Thursday night.

Returning to the ice will be the University of Georgia, Georgia Tech, the University of Florida and Florida State in the traditional matchups for the Thrasher Cup on Friday and Saturday nights.

The game times are as follows:

• Thursday, 7:30 p.m.: Citadel vs. South Carolina

• Friday, 6 p.m.: Georgia Tech vs. Florida State; 8:30 p.m. Georgia vs. Florida

• Saturday, 5:30 p.m.: Florida vs. Florida State; 8:30 p.m. Georgia vs. Georgia Tech

Guests will have a chance to win cash with the Bud Light slap shot and others prizes with Savannah Tire ice bowling.
