ATHENS- Tasha Humphrey scored 25 points and reached another career milestone in leading No. 12 Georgia to a 71-53 win over Alabama on Sunday at Stegeman Coliseum.
Humphrey hit on 10-of-13 shots from the floor, including a first-half layup to push her over 2,000 points for her career. Just the fifth player in Georgia history to reach that plateau, Humphrey now has 2,020 career points. Humphrey also grabbed eight rebounds.
"It may very well have been Tasha Humphrey's best game of the season," Georgia coach Andy Landers said. "We just felt like there was a since of purpose there. I thought she played exceptionally well on both ends of the floor. She shot the ball terrific, including the three ball and perimeter shots. She ran the floor better than any she has all year. It was a really good game for Tasha."
The Lady Bulldogs (15-3 overall, 2-2 SEC) got a double-double from Angel Robinson, who scored 12 points and pulled down 14 rebounds. Robinson also blocked three shots. Ashley Houts contributed 11 points, six steals and five assists.
Alabama (8-11, 1-3) got 16 points from Camilla Blands and 13 points from Dedrea Magee.
"I feel good about the fight we had today," Alabama coach Stephany Smith said. "I thought we played hard. Unfortunately, we got into foul trouble early, and we lose size when we go to our bench. But all in all, we fought hard. I thought we were bothersome defensively and forced Georgia into some shots. But we didn't do as well limiting their second and third opportunities, and that hurt us."
After staking Alabama to a 2-0 lead, the Lady Bulldogs drew even and then led the rest of the way. The Crimson Tide kept the deficit to single digits for much of the game before Georgia pulled away in the game's final eight minutes, closing on a 19-9 run.
Georgia will return to action on Thursday at Florida when Landers will be looking to secure his 700th victory at Georgia. The next home game is Jan. 31 against Kentucky.
