Johnson slam dunk
Blue Tide Cameryn Johnson placed third and brought home the bronze medal in the 2021 GHSA Slam Jam dunk contest.

The Long County Blue Tide’s basketball season has been over for nearly a month now, but the team was still pushing for one of their own to bring home a trophy. On Saturday, March 13, that happened as junior star Cameryn Johnson placed third and brought home the bronze medal in the 2021 GHSA Slam Jam dunk contest.

Johnson entered the contest in January by submitting a dunk to the GHSA website. Of the 15 entrants, he received the most votes from around the state of Georgia and advanced to the top eight round. He submitted a series of in-game and practice dunks and once again received the most votes of the entrants to advance to the finals.

The finals took place in Macon on Saturday between the 7A girls and boys state championship games. He competed in the finals against Wilson Sibley of North Oconee High School and Cash Allen of Chattooga High School.

While Johnson did not win the gold in the finals, he still comes home with the bronze medal and should be very proud of the way he represented Long County High School and the Blue Tide.

Johnson is looking forward to returning to the Blue Tide for his senior year on the football field and basketball court and should be an integral part of both teams.
