Long County High School’s Lady Blue Tide softball team won the first two of their best of three series against St. Vincent’s Academy Thursday at home during their region playoffs games. The victories meant the girls advance to the second round of the Region 2-AA playoffs and guarantees the Lady Tide a spot in the state tournament.

The LongCounty girls won the first game 3-1. The Lady Tide then scored a shutout win in game two sending the Lady Saints home with a 4-0 loss.

Lady Tide Harley Dawson pitched two nearly flawless games.

In game one the Lady Tide were led by Samantha Garcia who smacked a double 2 RBIs to help the Lady Tide gain the 3-0 advantage. The Long County girls held the lead all the way until the top of the seventh inning when the Lady Saints scored a run and were starting to threaten the Lady Tide team. But Dawson and the Tide defense got the three outs leaving the runners on base for the win.

Much like the first game the Lady Tide pounced to a 3-0 lead early in the first inning of game two. The Blue Tide girls held the lead and added a run late in the game. The Saints twice had runners on base and in scoring position but again Dawson and the defense shut them down.

Official stats had not been posted but more information will be provided as it becomes available.

The Lady Tide will play at Bacon County Monday and Tuesday for a best of three series for the second round of the region playoffs. Information regarding the state tournament will be provided at a later date.
