The Liberty Lady Mavericks missed out on qualifying for a National AAU bid earlier this month in a tournament in Macon. Some players suffered injuries and the team went 1-2, missing a bid by a game.
Now, the Mavericks have another chance this weekend in the Capital City Tournament in Columbia, S.C.
There, the 14-under Mavs will be tested against some of the best basketball teams in the Palmetto State.
Mavs coach Aaron White is optimistic that his team will excel.
“I am looking for us to win it all,” he said. “I believe they can. It’s a learning process, but the players are catching on very quickly. They are hungry, persistent and, most of all, determined.”
In the tournament, the Mavs have three guarenteed games and a possible fourth, if they advance to the finals.
For fans wanting to catch a glimpse of the team, the Lady Mavericks practice at the old Hinesville Middle School gym. They will compete in the Riverstreet Classic in Savannah, June 15-17.
