Lady Panthers beat WACO

After honoring their six seniors, the Lady Panthers got busy on the softball diamond and defeated Washington County 9-7 Saturday at home to clinch fourth place in 3-AAA.

The girls were going to have to repeat their performance Tuesday afternoon in Dublin where they faced WACO again in the first round of the playoffs. Lady Panther coach Jerome Standard said WACO’s fifth-place finish made them the Panthers’ first playoff opponent.

He said if his team could beat WACO again they would then face the No. 1 seeded West Laurens.

Standard said in Saturday’s game, Lady Panther Diamone Johnson knocked another ball out of the park smacking the scoreboard in left field. It’s her second homerun of the season.

The team and coach have nicknamed her ‘Willie Mays.’

The Courier will bring you the results from playoffs as they become available.
