The Long County High School girls’ basketball team had one of its best showings of the year Tuesday by destroying Groves, 69-20, in the first round of the Region 2-AA Tournament in Ludowici.

But the good feelings didn’t carry over to Wednesday, when the Lady Tide lost to Jeff Davis, 45-31.

Long County opened Tuesday’s game with a 13-0 run and never looked back.

The Lady Tide’s Elexxus Wrighton led all scorers with 15 points. Malaka Elix and Mya Howard each had 11 points, and Katie Estill scored 10 points.

Kizzy Pringle led Groves with five points.

LCHS assistant coach Eric McNair said he was pleased with the entire team’s performance and was proud of all of the girls. He was especially pleased with the team’s defensive play.

“We rotated well and pressed well and, as a result of this, they had a lot of trouble handling the ball,” he said.
