The Long County Lady Blue Tide basketball team hosted the St. Vincent’s Academy Saints on Saturday, Jan. 6 looking to get back on track after a loss to Calvary Day the night before. They did just that with an early lead that they never looked back from in a 49-33 win.

They opened on a 10-2 run, helped by Zae Buckner’s two 3-point makes. They closed on a 7-2 run to lead 17-4 going into the second quarter.

The Tide then opened on a 13-0 run and extended their lead to 30-4. This extended their 7-2 run to 20-2 since 3:00 left in the first quarter. Makinzie Moody had 11 points and Buckner 10. The team was 4-of-9 from 3 in the first half as they led 30-10.

They kept rolling in the third as they were 2-of-4 from 3 and led 45-21 going into the fourth quarter. Moody added another seven points to push her total to 18.

With a 24-point lead, the Tide started filtering in reserve players in the fourth quarter. This worked against them, however, as the Saints cut the Tide’s lead down to just 14 before the Tide put their starters back in to preserve the win.

Moody led with 20 points as Buckner added 12. The Tide, now 4-8 overall and 3-2 in the region, hit six 3s in the win.
