The Long County Lady Blue Tide golf team is a young trio of girls that are hardworking, dedicated and intelligent. They showed that off on Tuesday, April 27 as their season came to an end at the Area meet at Okefenokee Country Club between Regions 1 and 4 in the GHSA AAA classification.
The Lady Tide was paced for most of the season by Savannah Wells and she continued to be impressive. She shot a 127, 18-hole score at the Area match. With the team usually playing nine holes throughout the season, making the transition to a full 18 holes would prove tough for anyone.
Despite this, Wells along with Ashlyn Tully and Abbi Rowan, shot a team total of 394. This was shy of the mark the team needed to qualify for the state competition, but golf coach Patrick Eastlake was happy with the performance of his team.
“It was an extremely tough course and I am extremely proud of how they played considering all three of them had not picked up a golf club until this year,” Eastlake said.
Tully led her team with a 123, shooting season-low scores of 60 and 63. Rowan shot a 144, but Eastlake said that she was hitting her driver “50 yards farther than she ever has.”
All three Lady Tide golfers will return to the team next year, so it seems that they certainly have a bright future ahead of them for the 2022 season.
The boys’ team will travel to Lakeview Golf Course on Friday, April 30 for their Area match.
