Lady Tide name this years award winners

The Long County Lady Tide basketball team recently had its annual banquet to recognize members’ accomplishments.

For the varsity team the Academic Award went to Keke Calhoun, the Defensive Player of the Year Award went to Anazha Kincaid, the Offensive Player of the Year Award went to Katie Estill, and the Most Improved Player of the Year Award went to Trinity Hall.

The team had co-Most Valuable Player of the Year Awards with Elexxus Wrighton and Mya Howard taking the titles. The Coach’s Award went to Malaka Elix. And the Blue Tide Award went to Caitlyn Wingate.

For the junior varsity, the Academic Award went to Bre Crawford, the Defensive Player of the Year Award went to Tatyana Smiley, the Offensive Player of the Year Award went to Kayla Underwood, and the Coach’s Award went to Yaya Wright.

Postseason awards went to Elix, Estill, and Kincaid who received honorable mention on the 2-AA All-Region Team. Howard, who made the region’s second squad, was also recognized. Wrighton was recognized for having more than 1,000 career rebounds and for making the region first team.

Head coach Brian Todd also recognized assistant coaches Catherine Brown and Kristie Garcia, trainer Nick Thompson and team chaplain Eric Sizemore. He also thanked students Courtney McNeal, Damontee Hall, T.J. McCrae, Raven Ervin and Calvin Cooper for their help during the season.

This year, the Lady Tide posted a 19-10 record and made it to the state playoffs.
