Lady Tide stay close to Tattnall

In a hard fought game that went back and forth all night, the Long County girls basketball team fell to Tattnall County 58-54 Friday.

Playing in Ludowici, the Lady Tide fell behind 19-12 in the first period but clawed their way back in the third period to narrow their deficit to three points. In the final period both teams played aggressively, but the home team wasn’t able to make up any ground, losing the contest by four points.

The leading scorers for Long County were Elexxus Wrighton, who had 11 points, Anazha Kincaid, who had 10, Jakayla Porter, who chipped in 9, and Ja’Leshia Johnson, who added 7 points.

With the Region 2-AAA loss, Long County fell to 10-11 overall and 2-5 in the region.

Tattnall County improved their overall record to 10-11 also, but more importantly remained undefeated in the region at 7-0.

MaxPreps.com puts the remaining region standings at; Pierce County at 4-2 (14-5 overall), Brantley County (8-9), Liberty County at 3-3 (5-9) and Appling County at 0-6 (2-11).

Long County has only four games left in the regular season, with three of them coming against region opponents. Friday, the Lady Tide will be back at home when the Pierce County Lady Bears come to town. That game tips off at 6 p.m.
