The Long County girl’s basketball season came to an end Friday at the hands of the Screven County Lady Gamecocks, 67-36.
In a season where the Blue Tide Ladies, earned the respect of all their opponents in the 2-AA Region, the 23-5 Gamecocks were just too big for the smaller Long County team.
Screven County jumped out to a lead and went in at the half up 31-15.  The second half was a little better for the Blue Tide with them putting in 21 points, but they were still unable to stop their competitor, who put in 36, and never looked back.
Screven County had three players score in double figures, with Kadedra Evans leading all shooters with a game high 23 points.
In the game Caela LaRochester led all Blue Tide scorers with 8 points and Brittany Mills and India Gamble each had 6 points.
Even though the Lady Blue Tide’s season ended with a defeat, the team had one of the best year’s in the school’s history by making it to the State Tournament.  A feat that had not happened since 1980.  In addition to that they won two games at the 2-AA Region Tournament finishing in third place, and ended the year with 12 wins overall, and a winning record of 8-7 in their region.
“I’m just proud of the whole team.  When we lost those close games early in the year these ladies never quit, they always played hard and kept a positive attitude.  I’m really proud of them “, said Head Coach Julie Daffron.
