Class of 2017 Liberty County High School basketball player Davion Mitchell has received another college offer, this time from Southern Methodist University, according to smu.rivals.com.

The offer was extended to Mitchell the first week of July through his uncle Derrick Mitchell, who spoke with the coaching staff at SMU.

The report says SMU was impressed with the point guard’s talent and has started to establish a relationship with Mitchell and his family. The team wanted to extend the offer immediately because Mitchell is being highly recruited.

Mitchell said he doesn’t know a lot about SMU, but he knows another top recruit and McDonald’s All-American, Emmanuel Mudiay, also is considering SMU.

“He was committed to SMU, so I know there had to be something special there,” he said in the interview with Adam Grosbard.
Mitchell said his uncle speaks highly of SMU head coach Larry Brown, an accomplished men’s college basketball and NBA coach.

“My family knows a lot about him, so they’re helping with my recruiting,” Mitchell said in the report.
Mitchell is currently playing summer league ball with the Georgia Stars 16U team.

Mitchell also has offers from Auburn, Cincinnati, Florida International, Georgia, Memphis and Tulane, according to rivals.com.
