Liberty defense to Veer into the unknown in opener
Liberty-SEB preview
After losing 10 starters to graduation, Liberty County's defense gets a unique test right off the bat with SEB's split-back Veer attack.

It will be a different looking Southeast Bulloch Yellow Jacket offense the Liberty County Panthers will see Friday night at Donell Woods Stadum.

The Jackets, coming off a 2-8 season in 2022, have gone old school in their offensive approach. They’re using the split-back Veer offense, something Glazer hasn’t seen as a coach.

“I’ve never coached against the split back Veer,” he said. “This will definitely be a first.”

It’s been a while since Glazer has seen the offense – his sophomore year in high school, in fact.

For an untested defense, with 10 new starters, SEB’s new offense can be a challenge. The Panthers coaches are trying to keep it simple for their own players.

“Our linebackers have to get downhill,” Glazer said. “We’ve been preaching all week, you just keep going. If you don’t attack it immediately, you’re not going to stop them from running the football.

“You have to be gap sound and everybody has to do their job. Do your job and recognize the formations and think about what plays could be coming your way. When you see it, just go.”

Liberty’s scrimmage with Jenkins was cut short after just more than a quarter. Because of that, Liberty and SEB traded just the first 12 minutes of their scrimmage during a film exchange.

Liberty’s offense also had just one possession, going three-and-out, in the scrimmage, but Glazer has liked what he has seen from the offense throughout the preseason.

“I think we’ll be ready to play,” he said. “We may have to go through some of the scrimmage games woes this first game. But we’ve been preparing all offseason for this game, getting ready for week one.”
