Defending state Class AAAA basketball champion Liberty County High School won’t play for the Class AAA boys basketball title after the Panthers fell 71-62 to Pace Academy on Saturday in a semifinal matchup at Armstrong State University.
The Panthers, who had won 14 straight games before Saturday’s loss in Savannah, finish the season at 22-6.
No individual stats were available by the Courier’s deadline, but LCHS coach Julian Stokes tweeted “We fought hard the whole night ... and that’s all I can ask for, tough loss in the final four ... Go Panthers! #LC.”
The Panthers reportedly rallied from an 18-point deficit to pull within 39-30 at halftime.
Pace Academy improves to 25-8 and will play the winner of Morgan County and Calhoun. The championship game is set to be played March 9 at UGA.
