Former Liberty County track athlete Courtney Rhodes competed in her last track meet for the University of the Cumberlands April 30.
In what she called a bittersweet moment, the senior shined in her final performance, earning two gold medals and a silver.
Rhodes earned gold with the top finish in the hammer throw, tossing it 129.2 feet (39.38 meters).
She also placed first in the discus, clearing 129.9 feet (39.57 meters). She earned a silver in the shot put, clearing 42.2 feet (12.86 meters).
Albany State athletes
Another former Panther track athlete, Khaleed Barrett, recently placed third in the 1500 meter run as a member of the Albany State University Golden Rams track team. Barrett’s third place finish was at the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships April 16.
The sophomore had a standout season his year earning a gold finish April 2 as a member of the 4x400 meter relay team. Barrett has consistently placed second in the 800 meter run this year.
Barrett’s teammate, former Bradwell Track star Jamorris Hill, placed fourth in the SIAC meet in the 1500.
Hill earned first place finishes in the 1500, 5000and 800 meters run at the Alice Coachman meet held April 2.
Lady Golden Ram and former BI track athlete Aaliyah Howard placed first in the 5000 meter run, fourth in the 3000 meter run and fifth in the 10,000 meter run at the SIAC meet.
