Eight local high school basketball players are ranked among the top 100 in the state in four different categories, according to Web site MaxPreps.com. The players represent two private schools, First Presbyterian Christian Academy in Hinesville and Faith Baptist Christian Academy in Ludowici.
The statistics are based on information MaxPreps.com receives from the each school’s athletic department.
Listed among the top 100 in the state for scoring are four FPCA players and one Faith Baptist player. Ranked ninth is Jaquez Motley, a resident of Hinesville who attends Faith Baptist. He is averaging 23.2 points per game through five games. FPCA’s Joey Bell is ranked 21st at 18.6 ppg, while fellow Highlanders A.J. Ansley, Michael Brown and Terrence Alston are ranked 28th, 66th and 90th, respectively.
Among the rebound leaders is FPCA’s Hakeem Golden, who is 6th with an 11.2 average. Ansley is 26th with an 8.4 average, while Motley is ranked 75th with a 5.4 average, and FPCA’s Josh Rodgers is ranked 95th with a 4.8 average.
The Highlanders took up five spots in the steals category. Bell is ranked 23th statewide with 24 steals; Brown is ranked 40th with 19 steals; Michael Farrior is ranked 51st with six steals; and Alston and Golden are ranked 72 and 98, respectively.
Atop the category for 3-point field goals made is Motley, who is averaging 3.2 a game.
