Scott’s All*Stars held its annual tryouts Feb. 16 -17 at the YMCA in Hinesville.
Fifty-three players registered for the program.
According to a news release, the Scott’s All*Stars mission is to teach basketball and life skills to young males who have the potential athletically and academically to play basketball on the college level.
This weekend, the program will have its annual retreat in which kids are taught kids the “ABC’s” of Scott’s All*Stars, including the academic requirements and a review of academic assistance available, basketball training and exposure, community service and college tours, and the drug-free commitment. Mentors also are introduced to parents during the retreat.
The group held its first community-service project on Saturday, by assisting with the annual national college fair MegaGensis in Savannah. The group was expected to attend church today.
Recently two of the players Marcus Scott V and Russell Dandy traveled to Houston for the NBA All-Star game where they met Lebron James. The boys also got the chance to participate in the Jam session and watch the slam dunk competition.
